I am preparing for a vacation in Indonesia. Me and my wife have agreed that such a vacation is long overdue, we will have good company, lodging problems were sorted out before they even appeared, and even tickets were bought with relative ease. But it's always a good idea to know something about the places you are going to visit, right? So we decided we needed a travel guide...
Thoughts and rants about China, Russia, movies, life in Ningbo and basically everything.

Buying piano to learn playing tuba, or Strange ways of Apple
I remember that short story... There was a man, shortly after the Russian Revolution and the Civil War, who dreamed of learning to play helicon. He looked at it in the shop window every day... but had no money to buy it, as it was 100 roubles in gold. He started saving money, and after a year saved just enough to buy the object of his dream. There was even the "Teach yourself to play Helicon" book supplied with the instrument! After getting home, the man opened the book, already seeing himself playing... "First of all, buy a cheap grand piano, one with the price of 500 roubles will be quite good" – said the first page of the book.

While I presume that the hint is valid (never owned a Mac Pro that wasn't Hackintosh), most of the Mac Book Pros now have no means of connecting a Firewire 400 device to them without a 9-to-6 or a 9-to-4 cable. So the hint is sort of useless to most of us...
