Finally...

I came upon the mention of this case on a Russian newsfeed:
New Haven firefighters get $2 million in bias case. It seems that finally they started to acknowledge that racism is not confined to white people (just look how many people from India would scream: "I hate niggers!" on the Internet).

Personally I think that all these quotas based on sex, race or whatever else are just plain stupid. If these firefighters really deserved it (as tests seem to have demonstrated back in 2004), they were entitled to that promotion. Cancelling the test results because most of them happened to be white is just plain stupid. If the non-whites are not as educated as white people – well, start from the goddamn schools and teach them something so they can get better jobs. Improve access to the colleges for people with lower incomes. As it seems to work now, not being white heterosexual man is considered as a virtue in itself, which is not true. People are not equal, never were and never will be. Enforcing racial or any other quotas will not make them equal, period. What is needed, then? Just equal opportunities. People must know that if they are the best for that job, they'll get it regardless of their sex, race or sexual orientation and without any bureaucrat telling them that they failed by being white (or black, or whatever).

Tell the truth and you're fired

Well the headline was a bit misleading in this article: BBC News - New Zealand boss Alasdair Thompson sacked in sexism row when it appeared in my RSS reader. It was displayed as: NZ menstruation-row boss sacked. And while most of his babble is more or less a load of bollocks (at least in my experience there is no clear difference in productivity between men and women – both tend to be goddamn slackers), the part about menstruation is (again, in my experience) quite true. And it seems it's precisely the part that caused the most outrage from women.

You know, I do not read 1984 anymore. Poor Mr. Orwell was too scared of Communism to see that tyranny of one party is not the only way. When you get "reverse discrimination", it gets much nastier. Under the guise of trying to right the wrongs you just get the same old sexism, racism, any other -ism – only this time it's directed at the perceived "oppressor". Robbing Peter so Paul would thrive is no way to bring forth the equality they speak of.

If Mr. Thompson can't prove that women do less work because of menstruation, he ought to be sacked. But if he can prove it (and maybe he can) – well, all the angry voices should shut up. But that's impossible for now...
